Vivienne and Malcolm McLaren begin to work together, opening their first shop at 430 Kings Road.
The shop name changes from Too Fast To Live, Too Young To Die, inspired by rebellious biker gangs and 1950s revivalism, to SEX, inspired by BDSM subcultures, with buckled leather cuffs, dog collars, and chains worn as jewellery.
The UK punk band the Sex Pistols are founded, recruiting their members from customers at 430 Kings Road.
The shop reopens as Seditionaries with the slogan Clothes for Heroes. The safety-pin becomes a quintessential item of punk jewellery.

Vivienne stages first fashion show. Dubbed the Pirate collection, the clothes are seen as a trigger for the New Romantics, a London youth subculture.
